I helped carry out CPR with a nurse called Jude last night on a gentleman that collapsed at the 9km marker - does anyone know what happened to him - Alison
I've also been worrying about the man who collapsed. I stopped, along with another lady, but was told everything was under control and to ask a marshal to ring for an ambulance. He's been on my mind all day - I hope he's okay.

Any one know if he is ok as it was one of my fellow Steel City Striders who was dealing with the CPR at the start, I know he and the two other striders who were helping at the start of the incident would like to know how the runner is?
I'm the Strider chappie who 1st started CPR. 431 was about 2 paces in front of me when his legs gave way. I asked if he was ok, replied "no", then he was on the floor. He never regained conciousness while I was there. He was breathing for around a minute then stopped, with no pulse. Myself and another female runner (Alison?) did the CPR routine until the St Johns arrived. The 2nd response team brought the de-fib, I am not familiar with these so would be unsure how successful this was but they seemed to be struggling to get a pulse. Myself and the other 2 Striders left when the ambulance arrived so do not know the outcome. You don't know how much I hope he made it. Thanks again to all who helped/took over/offered assistance, + to Striders Ian & Steph for sorting the traffic and support. Sam.
Hi to all that are enquiring about the gentleman that collapsed. I was with the second response team that had the defribrillator. I can't give too much detail due to patient confidentiality but he is currently in hospital undergoing care. Many thanks to all that assisted and I am sure that the early intervention of other runners certainly helped him.

Dolly - firstly thanks for replying I have not slept well since seeing the incident.. I will relay info to the steel city striders who helped. If we could get thumbs up would be great. I know patient confidentiality and all.
Sam - did not want to name names on here but you were a true hero. With Steph dealing with the runners and Ian after the marathon at the weekend before the sprint to the martials at the pub must have been hard, sorry for my sarkie comments at the time.
As an aside please do not stop this great race, always well martialled and attended. done it 9 years on the trot and will support Askern to put it on next year. This year must have been nearly or best attended.

The guy is a good friend of mine and I was there with him, I just over took him (0.5k) before so wasn't with him when things went wrong.
He is still with us, he is still not concious so he clearly is not well but being well lokked after at Sheffield hospital.
He was a superfit guy and this could have happen anytime any where, it may seem strange but it was good it happen where it did as you guys were there right away and helped and as such you have given him a better chance then I could have done if it happen when we were on a training run.
Good organised race that should not be affected by this event except to show how important it is for all of us to have basic CPR training.
