It’s been a bit rainy and the River Don has turned the surrounding area in to a swimming pool. November’s Winter Time Trial was a quiet affair with most members struggling to make the journey:

As a result of the weather the Time Trial became something of a hand-holding jog! Thus, a supplementary November Time Trial will be held on Thursday 14th November; chips twice this month!
The usual ParkRun suspects, but a bit soggy this particular Saturday. Well done to Paul Smith, back in after dislocating at rib after a fall at Campsall XC last weekend!

A new event on the scene (which may well become an annual fixture) was a club relay on Donny Town Fields; the inaugural Michael Wakefield Relay Shield held on Saturday 9th November. A provisional date has been set for Saturday 14th November 2020. Mark Webster from DAC provided short biography and explanation:
‘This was the first running of the ‘Michael Wakefield Relay Shield, named after a former DAC member who collapsed whilst doing Doncaster Park Run in September 2016, sadly Michael passed a way a couple of hours later. He was a well known club member, more so for his love of the social events rather than his running ability! Michael loved Doncaster Park Run and he also loved cats, so we chose to support the following 2 local voluntary organisations: Doncaster Cat Rescue Society – they rescue, care for and re-home abandoned and feral cats; and, Friends of Sandall Park – they tend to the planting and maintenance of Sandall Park which is where Doncaster Park Run takes place. We raised £150 for each of these organisations plus we collected £55 at the Deaf School car park which we will pass on to the school.‘

Askern DRC did get out a team of six pairs, but not quite in keeping with the age and sex categories for each pair. Steve had a bit of a shock turning out for the first leg with Sophie to find his was the only bloke! I had joked it was a bit hard to hide his particularly masculine features and we had been disqualified! We haven’t, although Steve and Sophie understandably didn’t qualify for a prize! We’ve got 12 months to correct his testosterone level…
And then… On Sunday was the Remberence Sunday ADRC Invitational Run which follows much of the Norton 9 route (about 8.5 miles), but also finishing at the Social Club on West End Road. The weather turned out nice for a November morning run with some added sunshine. Stellar performances by all with our own Network Rail sponsored elite runner Joe Restell taking this year’s shield. £185 was raised for charity and will be donated to the South Yorkshire Flood Disaster Relief Appeal.
