ADRC Christmas Run

The first weekend in December usually sees our Christmas 10K at either Edwinstowe or The Percy Pud, followed by the much anticipated and always enjoyed meal and get together.  Sadly, due to the ongoing restrictions 2020 has brought us, this year this was not to be. However, a global pandemic wasn’t going to stop ADRC doing a little something and having some fun in the process.

We decided to run (see what I did there) a series of runs over the weekend of 5th and 6th December which comprised of 1 mile for under 12s, 2 miles for 12-16 year olds and either a 5K or 10K for anyone else in the club.
The children’s runs were to be a route of their choosing and with a parent if required. The 5K and 10K runs could either be a pre-determined route officiated by our President Fez or a route of your choice (parent optional). Given the tier restrictions this proved challenging, but any issues were ironed out and a compliant event was enjoyed by all.

In all we had 54 runners taking part across the different categories, comprising of 23 10K, 20 5K, 2 at 2 mile, 8 at 1 mile and R.Hatfield creating his own category for the inaugural half mile sprint. All who ran received a selection box (aware there are a few we need to still get out) and adults were entered into a draw for some plonk.
Not everyone could make the pre-arranged, socially distanced runs due to various commitments and had to do (very socially distanced) solo runs, but still gave it their all as the results showed. I do believe a few runners achieved PBs over their chosen distance which given it wasn’t proper race conditions is a brilliant achievement.

Special praise has to go to the fantastic efforts put in by the kids who made their parents very proud.

Once again well done to all and a massive thank you to everyone who had any part in helping to organise this event.  B.Tate did a fantastic job of standing in the cold and collating the results at the finish line, help like this is always much appreciated and allows more people to take part.

Watch this space as we are already planning the next Chrimbo events, whether these are to be socially distanced or not, we will keep running.

In the meantime, take care, stay safe and keep lacing up those trainers.

Organised and reported by Captains Hinchcliffe and Bradbury.
