…in a belated sort of fashion. The way 2021 had started it didn’t appear to be something worth continuing. When we get cryogenics perfected I can imagine it will be an extremely lucrative business as populations will choose to go ‘deep freeze’ during crises like this and thaw me out on the otherside. I’m getting distracted…
We discussed some important issues at our first 2021 committee meeting held last week after a sizeable hiatus; I think we’d run out of things to do and I wasn’t sure if my committee colleagues weren’t muting me on Zoom and the nodding was simply a wine-induced tic.
Firstly, during covid I’m pleased to say our members have done ADRC proud and have upheld the standards expected (somewhat forcibly) during various lockdown periods. Not only that, but we have continued to be active in an anti-social, but club-orientated, way. Sadly, some of us have retired from competitive running for various reasons, but I hope they will continue to enjoy the benefits of ADRC membership and social events.
Time trials were mostly the consistent event each month. Although, we also ran a number of regular high profile events such as the Remembrance Day and Boxing Day runs as well as others. Unfortunately, the South Yorkshire Road League looks unlikely and I’m sure the mudfests of our annual XC meetings was missed by many. Maybe XC later in 2021… Maybe even the return of our annual December 10k somewhere…I tease…naturally we’ll be in covid wave number 5 by then!
We will do our best to return to some sort of normality to club events…as circumstances dictate. You’ll have noticed the Norton 9 weekend came and went; and what a super weather we had on that day! Instead, we shall host only one event for 2021 which will be a rescheduled Norton 9 to be held on 8th August (in place of the Askern 10 mile).
On Saturday 10th July we are planning an epic ADRC party at a secret location. I can’t guarantee hugs or other forms of touching will be allowed. I know it’s same weekend as the Askern music festival, but it’s the only date we’ve got the venue for. Besides, if we’re all really super quiet we should still be able to hear it. Will be awesome.
South Yorkshire Road Relays…love it! One and a bit laps around a large puddle. Was scheduled for Tuesday 22nd June, but will check and let you all know.
Normally our AGM is held at the beginning of April. As much as I enjoyed hosting last year’s AGM on WhatsApp chat I couldn’t possibly cope with that again. Thus, a proper AGM meeting will be scheduled in early July when we should, hopefully, be allowed to do so. In the meantime, the only timely topic to sort out are the club membership fees. UKA member fees are not due until the end of August so we can fix that at the AGM, but out club affiliation fee is required before. So, what the committee asks is that each member states their intention to continue membership, we collect the numbers and pay our club subscription based on your ‘pledge of allegiance’.
The main event right now is on Thursday 1st April…Time Trial. No hugs, no high-fives, no spitting on the start line and no hanging around after, but…looking at the rules set down by England Athletics we should be able to have a socially-distanced mass start. We’ll sort this out on the night and confirm then or we set you off at intervals again. 7pm start gun. Crazy unkempt hair and beards on show (both men and women, equality stuff).
That’s all for now. Put any questions or ideas to a committee member for further discussion.
The Chairman x
